Many thanks to Pat Gaskell for information on the origins of the Northumberland Vogwell’s

 

Robert Vogwell married Hannah Button ln 10.3.1789 at St. Marys Church Portsea. Of their 8 children (3 sons, 5 daughters) the following moved around the country as follows:

 

Robert Henry Vogwell born 28 2 1790 became a revenue officer. He married Lydia Mills Spiller, and then married again to Mary Elizabeth Sanderson.  They married in village church at Longhoughton in Northumberland on 19 9 1825.  Robert died aged 90 on 23.12.1879.

 

Robert Henry and Mary Elizabeth had 6 children.  Robert Vogwell born 1826 James John born 1828 Charles Augustus born 1829 (born in Woolston Southampton but bapt 11.7.1829 at North Shields) William Oswald born 1832 at Newton by Sea Northumberland.  Mary Catherine 5 .12.1841 and Hannah Catherine born 1845 (died aged 4)

All 4 sons were sea captains.  (Pat Gaskell has full details)

 

Charles Augustus Vogwell born 1829, married Harriet, and lived in Portsmouth in 1881.  Charles died in 1904 at North Shields. He and Harriet had 3 sons and 2 daughters. Robert Henry born 1875 Woolston, Charles Augustus born 1873 Woolston, James born 1879 Portsmouth, Mary Catharine born 1864 chr at Christ Church Tymemouth, and Ann born 1867 Portsmouth.

 

Charles Augustus Vogwell born 1873 became Cr Charles A Vogwell. Went to medical College at Newcastle.

 

William Oswald Vogwell  born 1832 became a master mariner, He married Jane Charlton and died in 1877. They had one son and one daughter.

 

Fredierick George Vogwell born 1859, Northumberland. He was a plumber. Arrived in Sydney via the vessel Sydenham, in 1883 and married Mary Sarah White at Bathurst in 1887.

 

Jane Charlton Vogwell born 1865 N. Shields. Died 1896.
