He was the first known son of Robert Ellis (Senior) and Charlotte Winter, who had married on the 26 March of that same year. Robert's siblings were Edward Ellis b 1802 in St. James and William John b 1806, Mary b 1808, Isabella b 1810, and Ann born 1814. All of these later children were born in the parish of St Augustine, suggesting a move for the parents between the birth of the 2nd and 3rd child.

Robert married Dinah Hornagold in the parish of St Martin at Palace, Norwich, on 9 Feb 1812, when he was just 19.

The next record I have of Robert is in 1840 when he appears on the marriage certificate of his daughter Martha. Here his occupation is recorded as a weaver.

He must have died before 1851, because his wife, who is living with their daughter Isabella, on Magdalen Street, St Pauls, Norwich, is recorded as a widow, and is a power loom weaver as is her daughter and their female lodger - Harriot Green.

(273) She appeared on the census in 1891 in 29 Rose Yard, Norwich St Augustine.(110) She died in England. Marthas story begins with her birth on the sometime in 1819. She was christened at Norwich St Augustine Church on the 14 Nov 1819.

She is the 5th eldest of a large family of eleven children. Robert, Diana, George, Emely,
MARTHA, Robert, Emily, John Dinah, Isabella and Henry James.

It seems that the eldest child Robert, also Diana and Emely, may have died young, as their names are repeated in subsequent children.

Martha's parents were a Robert Ellis Jnr, and Diana Hornagold.

Martha next appears at the time of her marriage to William Carey on the 27 July 1840.
They married in the parish church of St Augustine. Martha is noted as a minor, so is relatively young.. Her profession was not defined, but she is residing in St Augustines.
Henry and Hannah Steward were witnesses, but it is not known what their relationship was at present.

Martha seems to have been illiterate, as she signed her name with a cross. From this it can be assumed that she had little or no formal education. Common for working class children of this period.

In 1845, when Edward Clarke her son was born, the family are residing at Walls Buildings St Augustine.

She married in 1840 and it was not long before her first child Henry Ellis was born. ie in 1841, She had 5 children altogether, Henry Ellis, Edward Clarke, Feargus W, Henry Ellis, Robert J.
These are the known children at present. There may have been more.

Martha next appears on the 1851 Census. Here she is living with her young family, with her husbands uncle and auntie, at Walls Buildings, St Augustine. Her occupation is described as a Hand Loom Weaver in the Silk Industry. It is not known who was looking after her children while she was working, perhaps they operated a shift system.?

She next appears on the 1881 Census. She still has two boys living at home., and is residing in the parish of St Augustine, the specific address does not appear to have been defined.

Here her work is defined as being a weaver. Probably in the silk industry still.

Her two now adult children are employed as a brush maker and a printer, bringing extra cash into the home.

In 1891 she appears on the census living at 29 Rose Yard, still in St Augustine. She and William are living alone. They are both 70 years of age. William is working still as a silk weaver, though Martha's work is not defined.

This is the last record I have of Martha.

(222) He appeared on the census in 1851 in Isabella Square, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.(222) He appeared on the census in 1881 in 6 Isabella Square, Great Yarmouth. (223) He was a Parish Relief in 1881 in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.(223) He died unknown. The story of James Fuller begins in about 1804 with his birth in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. Little is known about his own upbringing at present.

He was married on the 4 February 1827. His marriage is recorded in the parish church of St Nicholas, Great Yarmouth. (page 143, item no 429) The witnesses were his brother in law, William Critten and Sister in law Priscilla, who had married John Critten, another brother in law. He married Mary A Critten, who had been born in Halesworth, Suffolk, not far from Great Yarmouth.

James and Mary went on to have five known children. Susanna b 1828, Martha b 1833, Maria b 1836, Samuel John b 1838 and Edward b 1841. Four of the five children later married. (see below)

On the 1841 Census he and his family were residing at Row 141 (previously known as Child the Blacksmith's Row or Nelson Tavern Row, St Nicholas, Great Yarmouth. At this time James was a Rope Maker.

James and Mary appear on the 1851 Census, where they are found residing at Isabella Square, Great Yarmouth, James' occupation is recorded as a policeman. At this time he is 47, and his wife is 44, None of the children's occupations are defined on the 1851 Census. Susanna is unmarried and living with her parents. It seems likely that either Susanna or Martha (who does not appear on the 1851 Census ) were the likely mother of Mary A the granddaughter aged 4 who is also living with James and Mary. Maria is 15, Samuel 12, and Edward is 10.

The next record I have of James is on the marriage certificate of Charles Thompson and his daughter Maria Fuller in 1855. Maria by this time had moved to Norwich, and is living at Fullers Hole. At this point her fathers occupation is recorded as a twine spinner, so it seems that he was no longer a policeman.

The next record I have of James is 30 years later, where it appears that he is still residing at 6 Isabella Square, Great Yarmouth, with his wife Mary and his daughter Susanna. At this time James is 77 and his occupation is recorded as parish relief. His wife Mary is a braider of nets as is his daughter Susanna.

He was married to Mary A CRITTEN on 4 Feb 1827 in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.(294) (295)(296) Children were: Elizabeth Susanna FULLER, Martha FULLER, Maria FULLER, Samuel John FULLER, Edward FULLER.

bullet Maria FULLER(222) (297)(298) (299)(290) was born in 1836 in Norwich, Norfolk Yarmouth.(298) (300)(290) She appeared on the census in 1841 in Row 141, Child the Blacksmiths Row, or Nelson Tavern Row.(220) She appeared on the census in 1851 in Isabella Square, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. (222) She was educated Illiterate in 1867 in Norwich, Norfolk.(297) She appeared on the census in 1881 in Norwich, Norfolk. She resided 21 Lower Westwick St, between 1881 and 1889 in Norwich, Norfolk.(298) (107) She appeared on the census in 1891 in 74 Lower Westwick St, Norwich.(301) She died in England. Maria Fuller was born between 1833 and 1836 at Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. She is the third eldest known child of James Fuller and Mary A Critten.

Her known siblings were Susanna b 1828, Martha b 1833, MARIA b 1836, Samuel John b
1838, and Edward Fuller b 1841.

Maria appears on the 1841 Census where she is living at Row 141 with her parents (James is a rope maker at this time). Susannah is 18, Maria is 5, Samuel is 3 and Edward is 1. (no sign of Martha)

Maria appears on the 1851 Census, where she is aged 15 unmarried and living with her parents, and siblings, Susanna, Samuel Edward and also her niece Mary A Fuller, who is presumably a child of Susanna. Her occupation is undefined, but her father at this time, aged 47 is a policeman. She is living with them in Isabella Square, Great Yarmouth. (again, no sign of Martha on the 1851 Census)

She married Charles Thompson when she was 19, however the marriage certificate states that she was 22. This would make her birth date 1833, which is Martha's birth date, so there is a little confusion here. Perhaps she is Martha?

William Fisher and Susanna Flite witnessed the wedding, perhaps Susanna is her sister? now married.??

Neither Charles or Maria could read or write, as they both marked their names with an x.
They both lived at Fuller's Hole when they married, a copy of this area is on file, it does not appear to exist as an area today. It was just off St Augustine's Street.

They went on to have six known children. Mary A b 1861, Henry b 1863, Joseph Minister b 1867, Edward b 1870, Charles b 1872, and Thomas b 1875.

In 1867 Maria and Charles are living at Royal Oak Yard Heigham (from Joseph Minister's birth certificate. Maria still cannot read and write as she registered the child with an x.

Maria next appears on the 1881 Census, where she is aged 45. All the children are living with her and Charles, ageing from 20 to 6. They also have a lodger living with them, probably to bring in extra revenue.. At this point they are living at Lower Westwick Street in the parish of St Swithin, Norwich.

Maria then appears on the 1891 Census, living at 74 Lower Westwick Street, St Swithin

Her employment is undefined on the census, but she is aged 54 at this time. Her two youngest boys, Charles aged 17 and Thomas aged 16, are still living at home, they are both labourers.

Interestingly, her mother Mary Fuller, who is now a widow, is living with them, aged 85.

This is the last record I have of Maria Fuller.

Parents: James FULLER and Mary A CRITTEN.

She was married to Charles THOMPSON on 30 Jul 1855 in St Martin at Oak, Norwich, Norfolk, England. (302)(303) It appears that there is some discrepancy in the age of Maria Fuller, on the census she seems to have been fairly consistent in giving her age that would give a birth date of 1836

However on the marriage certificate she states that she is 22, when all indications would have it that she was 18 or 19.

Perhaps she would have been regarded as a minor, Parents did not witness. It is a mystery Children were: Mary A THOMPSON, Henry THOMPSON, Joseph Minister THOMPSON, Edward THOMPSON, Charles THOMPSON, Thomas THOMPSON.
